Show of hands, who hated the dresses?

Our New First Lady, Michelle Obama
I'm sure most of you talked about her choices of dresses. I know I did. Last night at work everyone was up in arms because the dresses weren't awesome. Mrs. Obama always dresses so fashionable and with the exception of the dress she wore for the inaguration, hands down, everyone hated them.
But my question is, why should we care what she wears? She's so much more than her dresses. Here is what she has already accomplished in her professional life
Michelle's impressive resume includes: Former associate dean at the University of Chicago; a member of six boards of directors including the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and Tree House Foods; and Vice President, Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals. In this position she was responsible for all programs and initiatives that involve the relationships between the hospitals and the community as well as management of the hospitals' business diversity program.
In any interview I've heard her say, "first and foremost I am am a mother."
I hope she gets more press for what she has done and what she will do rather than what is she wearing. I just don't think she's shallow and we as a country shouldn't be either.
It reminds me of when Kay Bailey Hutchinson was elected Senator from Texas. The Headline in the Austin (yes the capital paper) said, "UT Cheerleader wins Senate"
It did not list all of her many accomplishments, just the one she got from a popularity vote as Cheerleader for UT, when she was 20.
Have we really come a long way Baby?

Couldn't have said it better. She is definitely a woman of substance -- who cares about her clothes? Not me.

Interesting post... I like it. First, I worked for Senator Campbell for a little while and we always called KBH his girlfriend (they were sorta flirty). I don't know why, but I find it amusing that she was a cheerleader.

Second, I think Michelle Obama is tops. And I think she always looks pretty classy. I liked her mustard inauguration dress, though I didn't think it was as flattering as some other things I've seen her wear. Didn't really like the ball gown, but I thought she looked fine. Thought the girls looked adorable.

But you're right... I don't much care. Well, actually I do find it interesting. But I don't think it takes away from all she has accomplished. If Obama could wear something other than a dark suit and a red or blue tie, I'd be excited to check out his garb as well.

so... er.... the answer to your question is... no? :)

Michelle is quite an accomplished woman for sure!

As for her dresses, I have to say the only thing that impressed me about it was that she picked obscure clothing designers. It gives these two designers a break in the fashion industry.

I heard on the news this morning. People are already asking for their designs. CRAZY!

Look at you! I had no idea that she was such an accomplished woman. I do enjoy what she says about her daughters and that she and her husband actually act like they are in love. That is nice. You just keep up with everything. I don't know how you do it. How is the job anyway? How are the puking kids and family? I hope all are well.

Amen, sister. I caught a glimpse of CNN or something and what Michelle would be wearing was the #2 story.?? What is that? Did we focus on Barbara Bush's clothes? no. Maybe it has something to do with black fashion? Is it the wave of new reporting (Sarah Palin got blasted for a banana clip- who cares?)
Of course, my hair has always given me grief, so I'll be quiet here.

Oh, make no mistake, Renae: I cared about Sarah Palin's banana clip. I don't care what Michelle Obama wore in the sense that nothing she could wear would offend me, but I do find it interesting. They sure put some nice threads on those ladies!

And again, don't think it takes away from all she's done....
